The Padre scored an impressive 33/1 success on debut today, as the Josh Halley-trained homebred landed Dundalk’s Book Online At DundalkStadium.com Maiden under jockey Wayne Lordan.
By Ghaiyyath and homebred by Halley’s father John Halley, The Padre quickened nicely to lead a furlong out today, before scoring by 2.75 lengths from Adrienne
Trainer Halley reported “he was actually really forward as a two-year-old in July and he just weakened out a small bit. We gave him a little break at the end of the summer and that did him the world of good: I'm glad I held on for him now.
"I was half thinking of running him over a mile and he would get 1m4f for sure and he's actually quicker as well.
"We did think a bit of him before we came here and he was probably the best out of my two-year-olds last year. He showed an awful lot and then his pedigree said he would be a later two-year-old. By the time that came around, it was just too late for him.
"He would probably want it good to firm on turf, so we would probably be holding out a bit until the summer.
"He's actually one of the easiest horses now to do anything with, very quiet and doesn't spook or anything like that. He is on the market and that's our business.”
