Will The Wise (11/4f) qualified for Cheltenham in landing Naas’ Pertemps Network Group Qualifier Handicap Hurdle today, with successful trainer Gavin Cromwell to direct festival plans for the Have No Clue Syndicate-owned winner.

Previously successful in a Punchestown maiden hurdle last month, Will The Wise was well supported on handicap debut in today’s 19 runner race, with jockey Conor Stone-Walsh improving him to challenge from the second-last, before the pair scored by 2.5 lengths from Maxi Mac Gold

Bookmakers Paddy Power cut Will The Wise to 7/1 (from 12s) for Cheltenham’s Pertemps Final next month, although Cromwell later mentioned “he’s also in the Albert Bartlett as well so we’ll see where we go from here. We’ll have to see what the handicapper does as well.

“I was very unsure how he was going to handle the ground. He travelled and jumped and dug deep from the last.”
