There was no shortage of drama in the opening beginners chase at Punchestown with the Willie Mullins-trained Net D'Ecosse just emerging on top after three flashed past the post together. Chatham House Rule was soon a clear leader in the two-mile event but unshipped Luke Dempsey at the four-last to leave Peoples Park and Net D'Ecosse disputing the lead.
The Gigginstown gelding looked like getting the better of the argument going to the last but an untidy jump there let Peoples Park, in the second colours of JP McManus, back to the front.
Net D'Ecosse responded well for Bryan Cooper and just got his head in front again at the line for a nose verdict. Blazer sent off 5/4 favourite in the first colours of JP McManus and also trained by Mullins, stormed home on the run-in and was on top of the front two at the line, just a head back.
The 2/1 winner has been an early faller on his chase debut at Thurles last month.
“He was a bit fortunate but jumped well until the last,” said Mullins.
“I’d say he will go up in trip. Christmas will probably come a bit soon, and we’ll find something for him in the New Year.
“Blazer jumped well but just didn’t have enough speed when they quickened. He’ll go out in trip as well.”
