Bossofthebus proved too strong for his rivals in the finale at Clonmel this afternoon as jockey John Shinnick bagged a double on the card.

The Terence O’Brien-trained trained gelding went to post a 7/1 shot on his second outing for the yard having disappointed when the subject of a gamble at Sligo in October.

He bounced out in front today and had his rivals at work turning for home in the two-and-a-half mile contest.

Shinnick asked his mount to go and win his race after the second last and despite getting tight at the final flight the Hillstar gelding galloped on strongly to post a three-and-a-half length. Elusive Guy just edged a good battle with Coffeys Forge for the runner-up spot.

O’Brien, “We fancied him a bit the last day in Sligo, but the wheels came off the bus a bit - excuse the pun!

“He seemed in good order again coming here today but you couldn’t be confident after what he did in Sligo, and we were just hoping he’d run a nice race.

“I’m delighted for Ger (Finn) and Eamonn (Hickey) who are good supporters and Ger only lost his wife a couple of weeks ago so it’s a good tonic for him.

“It’s great for John to ride a double on the day. He comes into us twice a week and for a 5lb claimer is worth his weight in gold.”

Shinnick had also been on the scoresheet earlier, on board his only other ride Grainne A Chroi
