Hopes are high that Alpha Centauri enjoys as successful a career in the breeding sheds as she did on the racetrack.

When trained by Jessica Harrington, the daughter of Mastercraftsman enjoyed a terrific three-year-old season — winning the Irish 1,000 Guineas, the Coronation Stakes, the Falmouth and the Prix Jacques le Marois.

Her career was prematurely ended when she picked up an injury in the Matron Stakes, in which she was second behind Laurens.

It has been announced that she is in foal to pre-eminent sire Galileo.

Martin Buick, assistant racing manager to owners, the Niarchos family, said: “Alpha Centauri is in foal to Galileo and is thriving as a broodmare, and it will be interesting to see her in her second career.”
