Sir Callisto holds on to win finale for Heffernan and Martin A familiar partnership in bygone days, Tony Martin, Seamie Heffernan and owner Seamus Ross teamed up with Sir Callisto to win the concluding Floodlit Friday Nights At Dundalk Stadium Handicap. With Colin Keane unable to take up his intended rides on the card, trainer Tony Martin turned to old ally Heffernan. A combination that at one time would have struck fear into bookmakers, the duo added this latest success courtesy of the 2/1 chance. Tracking the pace in third as Rene Artois took the runners along, Heffernan moved up to lead entering the straight. James Ryan produced Theophilos to challenge over a furlong out, drawing alongside as the front two lunged for the winning line. However, at the finish, Sir Callisto just did enough to prevail by a nose. Tony Martin said: "Nice horse. He got a bad fall this time last year in Navan on his first run. "It was a good run the last day, he was only beaten a length and a-half (in fourth). "There was always going to be one like that on the door, it could easily have gone the opposite way in Gerry's (Keane, Theophilos) way tonight. "That's the level he is at and that is where he is. "It is great that he won for that man (Seamus Ross), he's had a terrible run of luck. Some nice horses and he looked a nice horse and got a bad fall. "Hopefully, he might pick up from where we were at. "It is lovely to get a bracket for the horse and the man (Ross)." Additional reporting by Michael Graham.
