Well-backed Pipes continues progression

Creggs Pipes continued her remarkable rise, as she took the feature at Killarney this evening, the Listed Irish Stallion Farms EBF Cairn Rouge Stakes.

Successful off a mark of 75 at the Curragh in May, the Andy Slattery trained four-year-old followed-up on her next start at the Co Kildare venue.

Up to a mark of 94, the daughter of Rip Van Winkle was available at 6/1 last night, opening on-course at 9/2 before going off the 11/4 second favourite.

Sent straight to the front by Declan McDonogh, she made all and fended off the challenge of Assume in the closing stages, going on to score by a neck in the colours of owners the Delphi Six Syndicate.

The runner-up was returned at 10/1 under Wayne Lordan for David Wachman, while Duchess Andorra (20/1) was two and a quarter lengths back in third under Niall McCullagh for Johnny Murtagh.

Andy Slattery said afterwards: "I previously won the Cork Sprint with An Saighdiur and that's my second Listed winner.

"I was hoping the ground would be a bit softer but she is tough and keeps at it. Not everyone is a fan of (sire) Rip Van Winkle but I love them and couldn't get enough of them.

"She is tough and genuine and just wants to please.

"I'll keep Planchart for the Corrib Stakes at Galway and give this one a little break now. We were hoping to be third for black-type but to win was a real bonus.

"I have 25 flat horses riding out at the moment - that's the biggest string. I'm still selling and will be looking for new stock again soon."
