Boxer Beat cruised home in the two mile one handicap chase at Killarney for his first career success at the 43rd time of asking.

The six-year-old gelding didn’t win like a long-standing maiden as he made headway into fourth and then smoothly hit the front two out before pulling away to win by seven lengths with Keith Donoghue doing the steering.

He had been grabbed close home in Bellewstown by Money Spider 11 days ago, but emphatically went one better today.

Handler Paul Flynn said: “He’s finally won and everyone’s delighted. He deserved it. It’s great for Cyril [Glynn] who’s been very patient.

“The horses are running well at the moment and he’ll go to Galway for either a handicap hurdle or a chase. He was running well last year, but getting no prize money.”

The winner’s SP was 11/2 from an opening 7/1 on course. He beat Pat Garrett (8/1) into second and Edmundo (10/1) into third.
