Ger Lyons' Gegenpressing was claimed by Cork based trainer John Murphy following his win in the Croom Claiming Race at Limerick today, scoring under Champion Jockey Colin Keane.
A 75 rated son of The Gurkha, Gegenpressing improved one placing on a recent Gowran runner-up effort when comfortably beating Atlas by 2.25L.
Afterwards Lyons' brother and assistant Shane Lyons stated “that was a grand result. He has been a very consistent horse, there is nothing wrong with him at all and we thought dropping him to a Claimer was his level to get a winner for the good owners Niall and Deirdre Kennelly that they are.
“He is the first horse Niall and Deirdre have had with us, they are lovely people and we're delighted to get the win for them. It is good to support these Claimers, there'll be plenty interest in him and he is there to be claimed.”
Gegenpressing was claimed for E15,000 by Murphy and there were no other horses claimed in the race.
Gegenpressing is a style of football which involves pressing a counter-attack and is often attributed to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
