An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference on the run to the line involving Accomplice (GB), placed second, ridden by David Probert; Flying West (GB), placed third, ridden by Tom Marquand and the winner, Kondratiev Wave (IRE), ridden by Ray Dawson.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved the placing of Accomplice (GB), who had come from behind Flying West (GB) and appeared to be holding that filly at the line, with the distance between the two a neck.
The interference was found to be accidental as Accomplice (GB) appeared to initiate the interference when shifting slightly left-handed, resulting in Flying West (GB) receiving a bump, becoming unbalanced and drifting left-handed, making contact with Kondratiev Wave (IRE) which caused Flying West (GB) to become unbalanced and in turn drift sharply right-handed towards Accomplice (GB), resulting in brief contact with that mare.
The performance of Rhubarb Bikini (IRE), which started second favourite and finished last of the eight runners, was considered.
Michael Attwater’s explanation that the gelding ran flat was noted.
