Permission was given for The Widdow Maker (GB) to wear a red hood to the start.
Having reviewed recordings of the false start, the Starters were satisfied that no riders should be reported for contravening the starting procedures.
At the sixth fence, The Widdow Maker (GB), placed third, jumped badly left-handed hampering Prince Escalus, placed fourth, causing it to in turn make contact with the winner, DESQUE DE L’ISLE (FR) which briefly became unbalanced as a result.
Following the race, James Best reported that Us And Them (IRE), which was pulled up, jumped poorly throughout.
The Veterinary Officer reported a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Alan Jones was interviewed regarding the jumping manners of Us And Them (IRE) in light of the fact that this was the gelding's fourth consecutive non-completion over fences, all of which were littered with questionable jumping.
Jones explained this was only the gelding's second run since having a bone chip removed from its near-hind leg and he continued to school well at home in the leadup to racing.
Jones further stated that based on today's performance and recent racing evidence, he would be recommending to the owners that Us And Them (IRE) may be better suited returning to hurdling.
