An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Optima Petamus (GB), ridden by Owen Payton and trained by Liam Bailey, which was held up early before making steady headway in the home straight to finish fourth, beaten by 3 lengths.

The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination during routine testing revealed the gelding to be lame on its right hind.

The rider stated his instructions were to keep the gelding on the bridle for as long as possible before making an effort in the home straight.

He added that he was slapping his mount down the neck approximately 2 ½ furlongs out and trying to run through gaps to keep the gelding running to the line.

He added that when he administered the whip inside the final ½ furlong the gelding began to slow down nearing the line.

The trainer stated that he was satisfied with the ride which accorded with his instructions in.

Their explanations were noted.

Being an apprentice rider, Payton was accompanied in the enquiry by a senior rider.

Following the race, Isobel Francis reported that Splash Of Verve (IRE), unplaced, was slowly away.

Keelan Baker reported that Mi Laddo (IRE), unplaced, was never travelling.
