An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference on the run to the line when the winner, Mr Tyrrell (IRE), ridden by Liam Browne, interfered with Old News (GB), placed second, ridden by Joanna Mason.
Being a 7lb claiming apprentice, Browne was offered the opportunity to be accompanied in the enquiry but declined.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved the placing of Mr Tyrrell (IRE) as the gelding had come from behind and despite Old News (GB) being taken off its intended line, it had lost little momentum and appeared to be held by Mr Tyrrell (IRE).
Browne was suspended for 2 days for careless riding for allowing his horse to drift right-handed without correction, causing Old News (GB) to be taken off its intended line.
Approximately 1 furlong out, Old News (GB), placed second, shifted left-handed away from the whip causing the rider of Glenn Coco (GB), placed fifth, to have to have to ease momentarily, but after viewing a recording of the incident it was found that no riding offence was involved and it had not improved the placing of Old News (GB).
