We've always thought the world of him and every time we went to the races we thought he would win and he got beat and I couldn't believe it. Malone Road made him look very slow in the north which says a lot for Malone Road. However, the last day he was in the north he didn't come off the bridle and he won in a hack canter. I wouldn’t be afraid to go two and a half with him. All along I thought he wanted good ground but in Down Royal on softer ground he never came off the bridle. We thought we would get going over hurdles as soon as possible. He's a smart horse and what I like about him is he's going forward - when he sees a hurdle all he wants to do is go and jump it and get to the far side of it. I'd say there is every possibility of him going to the Dublin Racing Festival. I hope he is a Grade One horse. He's a beautiful mover and he's a gorgeous-looking horse and he jumps extremely well. Noel Meade, trainer
Under the provisions of Rule 90, the Stewards allowed Howaya Aoife, trained by Gerard Keane, to run on receipt of the trainer's written assurance that the error identified in the certification of vaccinations would be corrected in accordance with Rule 91 within the timeframe specified
The Stewards received a report from the Clerk of the Scales, Mr. W. Fleming, regarding the failure of J.S
McGarvey, rider of Whatwasthatabout, placed sixth, to weigh in after this race. Evidence was heard from the rider and official concerned. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards found the rider in breach of Rule 230 (ii) and suspended him for one race day. The Stewards also disqualified Whatwasthatabout from sixth place
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer reported to the Stewards that He's Ok trained by Timothy Doyle was distressed post race
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Barrington Court, trained by Mrs John Harrington, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be lame post race
The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Whatwasthatabout, ridden by J.S. McGarvey, and trained by E. Bolger. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer's authorised representative, Mr. Frank Berry. J.S
McGarvey, stated that his instructions were to sit around mid division, pop away and ride on from there. In the race, he felt they went a good gallop and he was flat out from the fourth last. At the fourth last he took a blow and in the straight he came home one paced and was not closing on the principals. Mr. Berry, representing the trainer, confirmed the rider's instructions. He was pleased with the run but noted the horse did give a nice blow on unsaddling. He expressed himself satisfied with the ride. The Stewards also received a report from the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer who stated that the horse was clinically abnormal post race
Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered.
A hurdle race for five yrs old and upwards, maidens at starting that are EBF eligible and which have not run under any Rules of Racing as a two or three yr old
