The Stewards requested a report from D.N. Russell, rider of I Shot The Sheriff, trained by A.J.Martin, concerning his riding in the straight. The rider reported that his instructions were to hold his charge up and deliver him late, it being his first run for 675 days. He added that his charge travelled well into the straight but his effort levelled off in the closing stages. Having viewed the recording and considered the report, the Stewards noted the explanation offered.
