I’m from Holland and not from a horse racing background. I moved over here when I was young. I was in college but my course got changed and my sister was working in Gavin Cromwell’s yard so I went in for a few weekends and I was advised to take out a licence as I’m light. I just did it for a bit of fun and rode out in John’s a few evenings and decided to give it a go. I’m delighted for the owners and Kyanna. It’s obviously her first winner and she’s been working for me the last year. It’s tough to get people going in this game so hopefully that might get her started. She can ride and just needs the experience. The horse was got cheap in a claimer. He was drawn on the wrong side the last day in the Curragh and I thought he was a big price today but didn’t think he was going to win like that. John C McConnell, trainer

The Stewards interviewed Neve Bennett, rider of Sondheim, concerning her use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. In her evidence, Neve Bennett accepted that she had used her whip when well out of contention but explained that she was encouraging her mount to keep racing as she felt that if he was left alone he might slow down. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that Neve Bennett was in breach of R10(3)(b) by using her whip unnecessarily after her mounts chance of winning or being placed was clearly gone. Having taken her clean previous record into consideration, the Stewards cautioned Neve Bennett on this occasion

The Stewards enquired into the behaviour of Maccliff prior to the start of this race where Nathan O'Sullivan, Apprentice Jockey, had to dismount and lead his mount to the start. The Stewards were also aware that Gerard Michael Hussey, trainer of Maccliff, had requested permission by email through the Licensing Department to have his charge walked to the seven furlong start. The Stewards referenced Rules 153(vi) and 153 (vii) and sought an explanation from the persons involved. The trainer stated that he had confirmed the riding arrangement with James Nash, Master of Nathan O'Sullivan, and had informed him that Maccliff would be difficult to get to the start but would be grand during the race. He assumed that his charge could be led to the start because of her difficulty and was satisfied that the animal was a suitable ride for an Apprentice Jockey. Nathan O'Sullivan, rider, stated that this was his first ride on the racetrack and was not familiar with his mount before today. He added that in the interests of safety, he dismounted on instruction immediately outside the horse gate and led his mount to the start. The Stewards had wished to interview James Nash, Master of Nathan O'Sullivan, but were unable to do so as a result of his absence from today's fixture. Having considered all the evidence and viewed a recording of Maccliff from the time she left the parade ring, the Stewards were unable to conclude this enquiry as all evidence had not been gathered and in the circumstances they referred the matter to a Senior Racing Official for further investigation.
