An enquiry was held into the running and riding of OLDTIMER (IRE) ridden by Danny Cook, which was held up towards the rear before being asked for an effort after jumping the final hurdle in the back straight, to finish fifth of seven beaten 39 ½ lengths. The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Handicapper offered observations. The rider stated his instructions were to get the gelding relaxed and jumping and to do his best. He felt that he was able to carry out these instructions and had obtained the best possible placing. He added that he felt the gelding had ran in snatches, was babyish at some of his hurdles, and had been slightly inconvenienced by 2 other runners when being asked for an effort at the top of the hill. Having heard his evidence his explanations were noted.
