Review roscommon 2nd Aug
< Ongenstown Lad let down favourite-backers when unseating last time out but he made amends in some style with an emphatic victory in the JF Hanley Handicap Hurdle at Roscommon.
Gillian Callaghan's progressive seven-year-old could hardly have been more impressive as he coasted up by five lengths in the hands of Davy Condon.
The 7-1 shot took over jumping the third-last and soon had the race won, his jockey having the luxury of a look over his shoulder for non-existent dangers as he eased away to beat the staying-on Lea Lady
Andrew Lynch saddled a double initiated by Roley (16-1), who put up a brave front-running performance under Tim Carroll to take the Connaught Beginners Chase.
The eight-year-old was well clear for most of the way and although he tired in the closing stages, a good leap at the last set him up nicely for victory by a length and three-quarters over Give Us A Hand
Lynch then struck in the Sean Naughton Auctioneers Handicap Chase with the Robbie Colgan-ridden Ahorsecalledmolly (8-1), who beat off two fancied horses who travelled much better into the race, first Pistol Jack and then Jamsie Hall < Why But Why looked to have the Railway Bar 3-Y-O Maiden Hurdle sewn up going to the last, but he put in an untidy jump and Tom Doyle forced the Kieran Purcell-trained Burrenbridge Lodge (20-1) past to win by three-quarters of a length.
There was a nasty incident at the first when Roman Flight dived sharply left, giving David Casey a horrible fall.
Tony Martin's 4-5 favourite Undertheboardwalk took the first division of the Dysart Maiden Hurdle, leading at the last under Barry Geraghty and forging five and a half lengths clear.
In the second division Prayer From Heaven pulled out all the stops for Eddie Power to hold off the Eddie O'Connell-ridden Walden Prince (15-2) by a head, but was then demoted for interference to Denis Cullen's charge.
