Review kilbeggan 20th Jun
The Fay Bookmakers Handicap Hurdle offered the biggest prize at Kilbeggan and it produced an admirable pillar-to-post victory for Archie Boy
Bidding to capitalise on his considerably lower hurdles rating having landed a chase at Punchestown last month, Paul Flynn's charge was in front from flagfall.
Barry Geraghty looked a sitting duck on the 11-4 favourite turning for home, with the chasing pack closing in to lay down their respective challenges.
But Archie Boy kept finding under pressure and although Resolute Bay attempted to sneak up the inside approaching the line, the winner held on grimly by the narrowest of margins.< Glenstar has taken a while to come good over obstacles but finally got off the mark in the www.kilbegganraces.com Maiden Hurdle.
Sent off the 5-4 favourite, despite disappointing when market leader at Ballinrobe late last month, John Ryan's gelding was hardly foot-perfect but he struck the front three out.
Robbie Colgan kept the six-year-old up to his work from there on in and Granaruid was readily held four and a half lengths at bay.< Kalico Kim followed up her recent Listowel success with a gritty display in the Hurley Family Handicap Hurdle.< Derrinlanna wouldn't give up without a fight in second but the 13-2 winner pulled out a bit more after the last to record a length and a quarter success.< Tom Horn was also completing a double in the T & V Novice Hurdle.
A surprisingly easy-to-back 6-1 shot, Noel Meade's lightly-raced five-year-old came home two and a half lengths to the good over Presenting Nama in the hands of Paul Carberry.
Carberry landed a quickfire double on Casey Top in the Tyrrellspass Novice Chase.
Heavily supported into 3-1 having been available at 7s moments before the off, Leonard Whitmore's inmate defied a 162-day layoff to beat the front-running Spill The Beans who made a mistake at the last.
