Wingmen makes all under Swan to complete Elliott treble

Gordon Elliott rounded off what was a day of mixed emotions when Wingmen made every yard of the running under Harry Swan to run out a comfortable winner of the concluding JP & M Doyle(C&G) INH Flat Race at Punchestown.
On the scoresheet with Teahupoo and Maxxum earlier in the afternoon, those celebrations were somewhat tainted by the loss of stable stalwart Sire Du Berlais who suffered a fatal injury in the Champion Stayers Hurdle.
What was otherwise a good day for Elliott was capped off by the 18/1 outsider proving too strong for nine rivals in the winners' bumper that closed proceedings.
Put in at single figures when betting opened on the race, a flurry of support for a couple of previous winners saw the six-year-old drift markedly.
However, with Swan intent on making every post a winning one, the son of Kayf Tara kept on strongly to score by one-and-three-quarter lengths.
Elliott later reported: “We think he's a proper horse. It just didn't work out the last day but he's a very good horse.
“He's a very quick horse but he'll definitely stay further anyway.”
