Limerick man Wesley Joyce makes his return to race-riding at Naas on Monday, just over a year after suffering serious injuries in a fall at the Galway festival.
Joyce was leading the Listed Corrib Stakes on Red Heel when that filly came down, throwing the young apprentice into the path of oncoming rivals.
After damaging his chest, larynx, lungs, ribs and collarbone in the horror accident, the Moyross native spent a long period of time in University Hospital Galway before being released to continue his recovery at home.
Earlier this year, Joyce returned to the RACE Academy in Kildare to begin the final leg of a journey which today sees him make a welcome return to the weigh room.
The apprentice jockey, who had ridden six winners prior to his accident, has been back riding out for Johnny Murtagh on the Curragh. He partners Wave Machine for his master in the 3.25 race this afternoon.
