Successful for Joe Murphy and Gordon Elliott in the past, Sister Slew tonight gained a second win for the Shane Nolan yard by taking the Bet With Ladbrokes App Apprentice Handicap at Dundalk.
Robbie Downey rode the Kheleyf mare a winner for the Nolan yard over this course at the start of 2015, and here he brought the six-year-old through from mid-division down the outer in the final quarter mile.
The 7/1 shot led a furlong out and she stayed on well to oblige by a length and a quarter from Tribal Path
"She's dropped to a mark that she can be competitive off again," said Nolan.
"She's consistent and always runs her race. It will be more of the same, and hopefully she can get another one."
C.J. McGovern, rider of Shabra Emperor trained by Anthony McCann, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount burst blood vessels in running(confirmed by Turf Club Veterinary surgeon).
A.J. Breslin, rider of My Princess Emma trained by Noel G. Hynds, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount jumped awkwardly and missed the break.
The Stewards interviewed Gary Paul Halpin, rider of So Sensible concerning his use of the whip in this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Regulation 10.3(f) and 10.4, in that he used the whip with excessive force and frequency, while failing to give his mount time to respond and having taken into account his good record in this regard, suspended him for two race days.
