After being placed on his last three starts Peregrine Run got a deserved win to his name as he took the bumper at Killarney, the Killarney Welcomes Bordeaux Racecourse Flat Race.

The Peter Fahey trained five-year-old was third on his racecourse debut at Punchestown in June before again finishing third on his next start at Roscommon.

He was second to the promising Knocknanuss on his last outing over the course in distance and he went off the clear 4/9 favourite this evening.

Settled in mid-division he improved into a closer third down the back straight.

He travelled strongly in the home straight and led under two furlongs out, keeping on well under pressure from there to score by a length under Katie Walsh.

Outsider Lord Fendale (33/1) ran a fine race to take second under Declan Queally from Shane Donohoe while newcomer Canny Tom (7/1), also for Donohoe, was a further eight lengths back under Jamie Codd.

Peter Fahey said afterwards: "I'm delighted for the owner (Vincent Byrne from Portarlington) as much as the horse. He's been involved in horses for a few years and that's his first winner.

"He's still a big baby, and is a nice horse for next year."

STEWARDS REPORTS

The Stewards interviewed Mr E. Monfort, rider, in relation to his riding in the closing stages where he appeared to stop riding and lost third place in the process. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Rule 212 and suspended him for five race days.

Miss J.M. Mangan, rider of Goldacava trained by James G.Sheehan, reported to the Clerk of Scales that her saddle slipped in running.
