The Pat Martin trained Adieux gained a deserved maiden success at Dundalk today, landing the Dundalk Business Club 2017 (Fillies) Maiden under jockey Wayne Lordan.
The daughter of Dylan Thomas had finished second and third twice from three previous efforts and today held on for a short head win over Surprisingly
Martin later commented “we weren’t convinced she’d go on the surface but I had a chat with Seamie (Heffernan) after she ran in Leopardstown and he said to bring her up and give her a trial.
“We did that and Wayne was very happy with her the night he rode her here - we said we’d try it once and we might have just about got away with it.
“She won’t be coming back again - she’ll have a break now but it was just important to win as a three-year-old as the owner bred her.
“She’s a fine big filly and I’d say we’ll see a nice filly next year.”
