Another winner for Weld
The last race of the day went to inform Dermot Weld stable with Robbie McNamara doing the steering aboard Rite Of Passage for owners Christopher McHale and S.P O'Connor. Sat 02nd Aug
It was a satistactory performance but that's as far as I would go,. He found the track a little bit tight. It's only his second run over hurdles and the reason for bringing him here was to experience the undulations. It took him time to get use to them - which he did. That would indicate to me that we'll let him take his chance in the Neptune, the 2m5f novice hurdle at Cheltenham. That's likely to be his next race. He wasn't spectacular or over impressive but he did it nicely. He's a big horse, 16-3, and the inside track was a bit tight. I think a more galloping track would suit. I have the highest regard for Dunguib. At present he'll go for the Neptune. If Dunguib went for the Champion it could change but at the moment that's the way I see it.

He did what expected although I was a little bit concerned on the home turn,. He's a very good horse and potentially a very good over hurdles. He'll have one more run over hurdles and if we're happy enough with that he'll go to Cheltenham for one of the novices. Whether it's the two-mile or two-mile five we will decide nearer to the time. Trip doesn't worry him. He won a bumper over 2m3f and also won over 1m6f on the Flat. He does stay very well. He's a very laid back individual and always has gears - which is the sign of a really good horse. He's a total natural and a stronger horse this year. He has always jumped super and is a very athletic individual. I'm fully aware of the excellence of Dunguib. Lets see where we go. He's very good, so hopefully he stays sound and we have alot of fun with him.

He's a high class horse and he jumps really well. We will hopefully comeback here at Christmas time for a hurdle race. I think we'll have a lot to look forward to when he starts his hurdling campaign. He stays very well and he has a touch of class. It was all over as soon as he hit the front. We will probably start him off hurdling over two miles.

He did it well on heavy ground but I'm not going to get carried away as it was a bit of a messy race. Robbie [McNamara] gave him a perfect ride, he is still a big immature horse and Cheltenham is a possibility.
