Hill on top as placed horses are claimed in Sligo's opener
that was great. Poor Mick is in hospital so hopefully that will cheer him up. I think it's just something minor — a check up. I jumped and got a nice position. I thought we went a real good gallop and she just saw it out but she's a good honest filly. I think she'll jump a hurdle too. She's here to be claimed, I suppose, and whoever claims her will have a lot of fun with her. She's a good genuine filly.
Harrington & Foley on the mark with latest juvenile winner
Mulvany and Carroll combine for double
he stuck at it well. He was a fraction slow away and was nearly in top gear the whole way. In the last furlong he was only getting going. He's still a bit green and I think he'll improve again off that. Well done to Mick for running him back like that before he got the 7lb (ratings hike). Hopefully he'll win again. He's a good honest horse and tries hard. He wants further.
Jockey Carroll bags Sligo hat-trick
It was a three-year-old only race and they are hard to find. She impressed me and she won it well,. It wasn't a great race in my opinion but she won it well and she'll probably stick to handicaps. With fillies you have to be very delicate with them, you can't push them - they have to come. When you leave them they'll do it and they'll do it again. She's a well-bred filly as she's out of a Group 3 winning Dubawi mare. She'll be a nice filly for the paddocks eventually. It's very important to win as a three-year-old for their residual value at breeding. Four-year-old is not accepted anymore for some reason. This is the first one we've had for the owners (Ballylinch Stud) so please God it may continue We have one other one for them.
Galway Mile winners score Sligo success
it's some week for the Dooleys having won the Galway Mile last week. This horse had a hold up. We went juvenile hurdling with him in the spring and he had a little niggle so we had to stop with him.
Weld wins Connacht Oaks with Aga's Kastasa
Foley brushes aside McCreery and scores on Trooper
I was keen to put a claimer on him but Shane said 'no I'm riding as I think he has a great chance' so I said 'fair enough, just win on him so'. He gave him a lovely ride. I had him in last week in Galway but I said we'd wait for this as it's good prize-money. They went fast enough and he likes a bit of trouble; he's been second to a lot of good horses and the horse that beat him in Limerick is now rated over 100. He hasn't had a bad run. Earlier this year the horse that beat him in Leopardstown was third in Royal Ascot while the lad (Sovereign) who beat him last year in Galway happened to win the Derby!. He has great form and I'm just delighted we can get a win for Mr Zhang. He's a Fast Company so he needed a bit of ease in the ground. I thought the handicapper had been a bit hard on him, putting him up 10lb for his last three runs I think that's unfair on horses in Ireland. I think if you finish second you should be dropped 2lb because it means you are trying.
Foley follows Carroll in registering Sligo treble
the horses are all running well, there is no bad luck, they are just meeting better ones on the day. Running second then you are going up in the handicap all the time and then the fourth beats you the next time so you finish second again!. They are all going well. I'm delighted for Paddy (Woods, owner). He rode him in the charity race himself and said that he travelled great in the race and would we not try him at a mile-and-a-quarter. It was a nice race here for him and suited him well. He's a work in progress this lad, I think he'll improve as he gets older and he's by Dunaden so he should stay well. He's a late developing type. We're delighted. I'm sure the handicapper will have his say now but I'm just glad he's won for Paddy. He rides him in those charity races and it will set him up nicely. There will be no excuses the next time in Cork!
