Dunguib impresses again
He was a little bit free but he jumped well apart from one mistake. Brian went for him over the last two and he answered him well. We'll have to have a chat about whether we run him at Leopardstown over Christmas. We might side step it. We'll have a chat with Lily (owner Elizabeth Lawlor). Leopardstown at February would be the plan if we miss Christmas. He is not a robust horse and he wouldn't take an awful amount of racing or training. Cheltenham is obviously the main aim and Punchestown of course. At this point in time I'd say not as regards the Champion Hurdle. Like the old saying, novices should stick with novices. There is no need to pitch him in against the big boys. There is always next year.
Pandorama lands gamble in Drinmore
Robert (Bagnall, the winning owner) backed this fellow at 7/1 which I couldn't believe. You lads (the press) were saying that the Fighting Fifth was going to be the best hurdle race run this year and then after the race you're all saying it was a nothing of a race (because of the lack of pace). It was the same with this fellow. He jumped left the last day and everyone got caught up on that. But the fences at Punchestown are the width of the parade ring! He was up there in front and he went left at the first one and suddenly he was going down to every fence and getting worse and worse and worse. He (Paul Carberry) had no chance to correct him as he was there in front on his own and trying to win the race. Today now he got a lead and he was totally different. The engine is there. I think he could improve from today. Davy said his jumping was a small bit sketchy. He only schooled him over a couple so he wouldn't know him as well as the other fellow (Paul Carberry). The 3m 1f at Leopardstown at Christmas will be the next day. The RSA Chase and the Moriarty would be other races for him. If everything is all right, Christmas is the plan now. Jered would like a little bit better ground. He is not as big as the winner and he missed a few fences too.
Dan Dan takes Hatton's Grace
Big Bucks will hardly be shaking in his boots! We have that under our belts now anyway. He could go for the Long Walk, but that could be a long walk and we mightn't go there. We'll keep to him around three miles for the rest of the season. He got a great ride (from Davy Russell) and fair play to the horse, he stuck his head well out at the end. It was a three way finish so he'd have to improve a lot more, maybe another seven or eight pounds to win another big race like that. Maybe he could do that. He is a lot better this year than he was last year. I was glad he could do that because he is not the biggest horse in the world. He might have to go chasing next year if he doesn't match up with the big boys later on.
Cara Mara wins big prize
She jumps and she gallops and we knew she'd stay. She was bred by my brother Mick and that's her sixth win now. She might make into a Thyestes mare for 2011. The Sherwood Syndicate own her and it includes Bill Bourke who is local to here.
Lochan gets on top at the death
That's him, he is a big old-fashioned slow horse. I don't know if I did the right thing by not putting him in the Welsh National. But we said we'd love to have him for Leopardstown at Christmas. I think he'll improve a bit after today. He is only a second season novice. Hopefully they'll go a gallop in the Paddy Power. They just walked there today and he just got caught a bit flat-footed. Even without a stick he stayed on really well from the last. I told him not to win too far!. It's a pity his owner, Mick Bailey couldn't be here today. He had other commitments, he would have been here on Sunday.
Al Ferof prevails in style in bumper
He won it very very well. There wasn't much of a gallop on the last day and that bumper worked out super, really really well and he's improved a lot from it. He could be a Cheltenham bumper horse, if he improves. He couldn't have done it any better today. He won't jump a hurdle until this time next year, he is fairly backward.
