Courageous springs surprise in the opener
He was entered to run at Thurles last Thursday but that was called off. He travelled well today. He fell here the last day at the second last and he probably would have been thereabouts. I was hoping he would go close today. He is flat bred but he stays very well and he has a bit of class. I have no plan for him now but he will probably go for a winners of one. He was impressive enough.
Ruby gets Living Next Door up
He is improving all the time. He stays well and gallops. He is a proper old fashioned chaser. This looked a good opportunity but obviously we had fortune on our side (favourite falling at the second). He will make a nice staying hurdler and chaser. He jumped well enough but he just missed one or two down the back.
Liszt is a welcome winner for Torrens & Darcy
He was overdue a win over hurdles. I had a fear he would get caught but he likes flat tracks. He will probably stay over hurdles now and we might bring him back here at Christmas time.
First winner for Gallagher as Backinthere wins
That is my first winner on the track but I have had three or four in point-to-point's. I have two point-to-pointers in at the moment and she is my only one for the track but I would take plenty more! . She was injured after she finished second to Definite Class at Wexford but if she came back to that form she had her chance. She was entitled to win and she will probably go chasing now. She is owned by Vincent Sheehan who is a builder and is from Ballyduff in Co Waterford.
Happy New Year follows up on Gowran win
I wasn't sure if it was the right thing to do but it appears it didn't come too soon for him. He will have a small break now and come back here at Christmas time. He is not a superstar yet so we won't bring him to Leopardstown.
Suntiep gets up in the nick of time
Patrick gets me out of trouble. Harry Clarke bought him from France and Jim Ennis bought him yesterday morning as a replacement for Dare To Doubt who he sold in foal to Stowaway recently. He will make a staying chaser just as Pomme Tiepy was. He is a nice horse but he has a lot to learn. Patrick said he was learning as they came up the straight. He will go straight over fences now.
