Suntiep gets up in the nick of time The Willie Mullins trained newcomer Suntiep got going late on as he got up close home to win the limerickraces.ie INH Flat Race under Patrick Mullins. The 6yo French bred son of Ungaro, who is out of a half-sister to Pomme Tiepy, looked held in third as they raced inside the final furlong with Why Ask Me under Benny Walsh looking set to score. However the Jim Ennis owned gelding got going inside the final furlong to eat up the ground and hit the front in the nick of time to score by half a length at the line. The Sean Osbourne trained Why Ask Me had to settle for second at 16/1 while The Bishops Niece was a further five and a half lengths back in third at 14/1 for trainer TJ Nagle. All the money came for the Terence O’Brien trained Captain Canada who was backed from 3/1 this morning with Paddy Powers into an opening show on-course of just 6/4. He was then backed from 6/4 into 11/10 favourite at the off as the winner drifted on-course from an opening show of 5/4 out to 7/4 second favourite. Captain Canada raced far too free and had nothing left as runners approached the straight, finishing last of the eight runners. Willie Mullins said afterwards: "Patrick gets me out of trouble. Harry Clarke bought him from France and Jim Ennis bought him yesterday morning as a replacement for Dare To Doubt who he sold in foal to Stowaway recently. "He will make a staying chaser just as Pomme Tiepy was. He is a nice horse but he has a lot to learn. Patrick said he was learning as they came up the straight. He will go straight over fences now."
