Pumbaa bounces back to his best

We got him about ten weeks ago and he's a horse with problems. Roger takes a lot of credit for it as he rides him out every day and just lets him off and do his own thing. He works like a real good horse at home, and we are just training him gently and not overdoing him. Roger hugged the rails the whole way, and gave him a great ride. The lads that own him (Rafiki Syndicate) are neighbours of mine. He loved the ground. He won a bumper in Limerick at Christmas a couple of years ago, and when you go around there you go anywhere.

Joyeux finally gets off the mark

He'd plenty of good runs for Sandra (Hughes), and hopefully that win will give him a bit of confidence. We are delighted to have him but if he couldn't win today we'd be in real trouble with him. He jumped great today, he always jumps well. He jumps a fence probably better than a hurdle. He seemed to handle that ground well. He'll probably stick to chasing now but I’ll see what Frank (Berry, owner JP McManus' racing manager) thinks.

Hand & McLoughlin on the mark with Drama

He won in similar conditions at Limerick last year in a novice chase so I wasn't worried about the ground as long as it wasn't gluey. We were dropping him back today which wasn't ideal but I thought the race might cut up. I told Danny to make plenty of use of him, and he'll keep going.

Hill made to work for second successive win

Jack thought he was always going to win. He stays well but will probably get another hike for that. Hopefully there will be a few more days in him over hurdles (rated 87).

Dempsey doubles-up with Routes Choice

She was good to come back from that mistake and he did well to stay on. We put up Barry because she had so much weight. She had been working well and we were hopeful. She won a mares’ maiden hurdle on heavy ground in Limerick last year and the handicapper never really forgot her for it.
