Moving Water wins Wexford's opener
he did it nicely and going up in trip was a big help. He jumped superbly, never missed a beat and I was very happy with that. He is a real stayer in the making and is only a five-year-old but is a big, tall horse and jumped impeccably. He wouldn't have seen those type of (rubber) hurdles before but it didn't make any difference to him. we will see what happens now, he might have a few months on grass, I don't know. He liked the better ground today and they've done a super job with it.
Hurdles glory for Hurricane Georgie
Wexford win for Braddish breeders
I didn't know much about her, but I rode one for Seamus in Killarney recently (Mr Brogue) who is a half-brother. She did it well in fairness to her, she travelled nicely and they are a family with a bit of talent.
Successive doubles moves Slevin to seven
we picked her up cheaply. She had a good run in Cork on the Flat and when she came up for sale, I thought she might make a summer mare. She is by Canford Cliffs and I thought she would like a bit of nicer ground and her dam (Maontri) was good on the Flat. JJ said she has a real brain for hurdles so I don't think we will be going back on the level too fast. She won cannily enough and hopefully we can find another race like that. There is another one here in a fortnight's time but she is rated 89 so it depends what she gets from the handicapper.
McConnell wins with 'really nice' Chinx Of Light
he is a nice horse but still has a bit to learn and is a bit immature and novicey. He has a lot of ability though and that is the main thing. Gordon's horse (Elliott, The Bosses Oscar) probably returned to form there and it was probably a good performance to beat him. we missed a lot of time after I got him first - we were trying to get things right so I think we will keep him going now. There is not much left for him over hurdles and he should be just as good over fences but we will school him, see how he goes and then decide. If we can just harness his ability we could have a really nice horse.
Yenillik success continues Rogers' revival
it wasn't a surprise as we always thought that he wanted three miles. We bought him to go jumping but I think it's fences that he wants. He is a big horse and I know he is by Invincible Spirit but he stays all day. When we got him we thought he wanted soft, heavy ground but he doesn't. To me, the ground our there is on the slow side of good and just wants a trip. He will stay at what he is doing but he might go back on the Flat someday over two miles. Keith was good on him and is a strong lad.
Leading owner Walters has first winner for Mullins
he is above average for this time of the year and I think he is probably a black-type sort and I would have been disappointed if he didn't win today. I don't know what he will do next and he will win a winners bumper no problem. Maybe Willie will go to Galway with him, but he could put him away and make him a winter horse, we will see. He is not overly big and goes on that good ground but he could be a good winter horse. It's a good start (for Walters) and hopefully it will keep going that way.
