Prospectus two from three over timber
Some of the lads were saying they were a little bit worried but I wasn’t. He’s actually gotten a bit lazy, which is grand, but he picked up well and went to the line well,. I would have rather the ground was a bit softer because of the way he won on heavy ground here the last day. It wasn’t a bad little race and you’d have to be happy with that. There is no real plan. It’s day by day and see what way he progresses. I wouldn’t say he disappointed the last day, it was a bit of shock to the system for him. It was graded race that was run at a proper graded gallop and it was only his second run over hurdles. I’d say he’ll learn a bit today as well so we’ll take it one step at a time. I wouldn’t rule out the Fred Winter for him.
Bridge benefits as Chambord blunders
We had a bit of luck there but sure you take it when it’s given to you,. We’ve always thought a lot of her and she’s been second a good few times so it’s lovely for her owners that she’s won today. The pace probably wasn’t as strong as she’d like and she was jumping her way to the front which probably isn’t ideal. She’ll come on an awful lot from that today. The cheekpieces today just helped her concentrate a little bit more and she jumps great. She’s a real chaser in time, you see the size of her, and it’s only now she’s really right. It’s taken so long to get her to develop into herself. She’ll be a fabulous chaser in time but she’ll stay over hurdles this season and go chasing next year. She’s probably a real staying mare. She keeps going all the time and doesn’t mind that ground. She’s a nice one to have. If we could get a bit of black-type it would be fantastic for her.
Walsh and Mullins back on track with Soldier
He had a lot of run in France and a lot of runs in high grade races,. I didn’t get a handicap mark for him but I thought he might be one of the top rated maidens to run out of our yard anyway. He made hard work of that. His French form was all on soft and heavy ground but he might be better on better ground. I’m going to keep him to that trip. The bare form of that race he won’t be travelling and he could stay and run back here in Fairyhouse. He probably get an entry in something like the Albert Bartlett but I’d imagine he’ll stay at home for a novice races.
Ward makes return to winners enclosure
It’s a while since I had a winner and these days it’s brilliant (to get one). Nine is my lucky number and this is my local track. The last time I had a winner she was number nine as well,. I’ve done a lot of different things with this mare and I just train her out of the farm at home. I don’t gallop her and just use the old fashioned way of training horses. It’s worked because she bursts blood vessels. I have to thanks Mrs Lorna Fowler for permission to go down and gallop on her point-to-point track. We do things completely different with her. Where I train I’m in a cul de sac. She does a mile-and-a-half road work in the mornings and is out as much as possible. These days are great and thank god for theses races because for the likes of me to win races now it’s very competitive. She bolted up but I wouldn’t be in a hurry to run her on heavy ground. I think she could win a nice chase on nice jumping ground. Today is her day and my day as well so it’s just fantastic.
She comes Right for Grace
We thought the last day was too short for her. We were hopeful today and we had the right man on board,. Everything worked out. I was afraid the ground might be a bit tacky for her but Davy said no, that she travelled away. Davy was saying she could go up in trip and we’ll look for something similar. Hopefully the handicapper won’t be too hard on her.
Clontarf makes winning debut over fences
He said he loved jumping fences. I was a bit worried about the ground being a bit tacky as he wouldn’t be in love with it but he said jumping kept him in the game,. We’ll see what the handicapper does now. We’ll come back here for a race on Saturday week. Jumping is his game. We were missing the better horses in that race and he’ll be competitive in that kind of grade.
Larry gives McLoughlin first double
He kept going well. He jumped well and kept galloping. He said he liked the ground and kept plugging away,. He’s an old fashioned horse, keeps galloping, jumps well and stays all day. I remember Jim Dreaper telling me one time ‘the lad that keeps going has some chance - the lad that stops has none’. You can have all the speed in the world but if you don’t finish out.. He’s slow but he keeps galloping. We’ll see what the handicapper does now. He snuck in there a bit today, especially with Danny’s claim.
