Cotter's Dash wins sprint handicap
we were a bit lost for words the last day when she disappointed because we fancied her. She just sulks a bit when too many horses get around her, and today she broke a bit slow and we were worried for a while. Dylan got her back up into the pace and then she started travelling; she has her own way but she won snugly in the end. She needs good ground so that’s probably her last run on grass this year but we might send her up to Dundalk for a race or two. She’s progressing the right way and the claim helped also. Hopefully the handicapper is not too hard on us.
Father & son combine as Sors gains seventh win
a bit of ease in the ground and drop down in the handicap (helped him); he was a bit flat all summer, and he just seems to be coming back as his last couple of runs were decent. It’s grand to win one with him.
Horse with 'more setbacks than a royal marriage' lands gamble
he’s had more setbacks than a royal marriage this horse but we got him to the track in the end!. He’s a horse we always liked. We bought him as a foal as we have been lucky with the family, but he had a chip in a fetlock as a yearling. He was persistently lame and giving us a lot of trouble; the vets ruled out the chip in the fetlock but in the end of the day about two years later we took the chip out of the fetlock. He’s a big boy of a horse. It was an ordinary maiden and we are under no illusions about him but there could be a bit of fun to be had. He’s a handicap sprinter - he’s no Sole Power or Slade Power, and I doubt if we’ll bring him to Dundalk. It’s taken that long to get him right, we’ll try and keep him right for a bit longer!
Lynam completes well-backed Navan sprint double
it took him a while to get his act together but he’s getting it together now. It’s the same family as the previous winner which has been good to us; his dam is a half-sister to Dapper Power. He did it well and we’ll stay on the same road with him. He might go to Dundalk, will stay handicapping and we’ll see where we end up.
Scaglietti motors to Navan success
it was very straight forward as I followed the first two around and when she quickened away she pricked her ears in front. She’d be a better mare going further and a bit more ease in the ground as well. I’d say there is a bit more to come from her the way she’s done it as she won a shade cozily. She’ll be a grand dual purpose mare for them big two-mile handicaps, and a fun mare for her owners and breeders (Carroll family form Dungarvan).
