Bay another for Harrington & O'Donoghue
Colm said she was always travelling. It was her first run so she was entitled to get a bit tired in the last 50 yards. She's a very relaxed and straight-forward filly. I'd say she will get a mile in time, and the Moyglare (at the Curragh on September 11th) is definitely on the agenda.
Icon springs surprise under Downey
I thought if she came out of the gates that she had a chance. We put a blanket on her today and it worked. I suppose if you wait long enough it will happen, and she was dropped to 50 for this.
Aspar gets deserved win to his name
The owner, Howard Liang, is from Hong Kong and he might end up there. I think he wants six furlongs and, if he got into the Scurry (at the Curragh, July 16th), he could go there.
Discipline gets the job done in the Oaks Trial
She is a lovely filly from a family that has been very good to us. She is a full-sister to Famous Name and there are two other half-sisters that have been major stakes winners for us. We will look for a Group race next. There are no definite plans but she likes a bit of space between her races. Ten furlongs is no problem to her and if she stays a mile and a half it will open up more opportunities to her.
Palmones follows-up on Gowran win
We had to run really after she was put up (10lbs) for winning on Sunday. Gary gave her a superb, professional ride and we'll have to see where we go from here.
Gamble landed with Mr Right
He's improving and is a very big, raw baby. He has the mentality of a three-year-old. We are slowly stepping him up in trip, and his work would suggest that he's a miler. He's starting to do things right now, and could be a top end handicapper in time.
Sea provides Weld with 4,000th win
I’ve been very fortunate to have had some great riders over the years like Wally Swinburn, Johnny Roe, Michael Kinane and Pat Smullen, and Brendan Sheridan in National Hunt. My first day with a licence at Baldoyle in 1972 I had a double with Spanner and I rode Chevy Chase in the bumper. I've had a wonderful team of staff through the years, and a lot of hard work has gone in over that time. For many years there was only racing three days a week on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday and sometimes only two days a week. They were six race cards, and I was lucky enough to have five winners on a day a number of times. It's nice to do it with a home bred filly of my late mothers. We will look for some black type later in the year with her.
