Carberry back with a winner
It's been a long wait and slow to stretch the shoulder but the last two weeks it's improved a good bit. Hopefully it keeps going and it felt grand today. He's been working hard. A couple of months ago we were worried it might not come but the last fortnight it's been getting better and better. He caught me a bit by surprise as I thought we were looking at Sunday but I knew he was close as he was riding a lot of schooling. I have to talk to the owners but there is a possibility this horse might switch to fences, although I haven't schooled him yet. He has to be trained on grass all the time as he doesn't like the all-weather and he's been held up because the ground is so quick. He's burly and about 15 to 20 kilos heavy at the minute.
Ballyroe lands a touch
He ran very well at Naas and he missed the last two otherwise he would have been a lot closer. He'll go to Leopardstown at Christmas and he's not too bad.
Magic win for the Foley family
Surprises are great! He won here (on New Year's Day 2011) but a few months later at Naas he didn't get to the first hurdle. He broke his pelvis in three places and we thought he'd never run again. Earlier this year he ran at Cork and he was second but after that he disappointed so the owner said to give up on him. He's always had ability and battled on well today. The softer the ground the better he likes it. He won't be running in the Champion Hurdle or anything and hopefully the handicapper won't be too hard on him!
Housekeeper cleans up in maiden
We half expected it but you can't be too confident as there were a few fancied ones in it. We always thought a lot of her but this is the first year we've had a clean run with her as she's had a few issues. She travels unreal but needed two runs to get her to settle and switch off. I'm thrilled and delighted for the owner Tom Hayes. His father Joe, who bred West Tip, has not been too well and hopefully this will give him a good lift.
Carberry doubles up on return
I thought we might have a double (referring to Moonshine Lad's fall in the previous maiden hurdle). Paul gave him a great ride and never panicked. It's nice to win for the lads who are all local. Paul has been with me from the start and it's great to be able to give him a winner on his first day back. This horse has been knocking on the door and hopefully can win another one. It wasn't soft enough for him the last day, and he just got took off his feet a bit.
Croaker is the Boss in a thriller
He would have been an unlucky loser. He got underneath the last and the second horse got a length and a half. He got back on the line and I was kind of confident that he got up. He gets three miles well. I had him in at Thurles tomorrow. However I didn't think the rain had got into the ground at Thurles yet, so we decided to come here. He doesn't have to have it soft but he wouldn't want it hard.
Caviar impresses in bumper
He's a fine big chasing type, and I was pleased that he could go on that ground because it's turned quite slow. On his pedigree I thought he might want better ground but he's such a strong horse he handled that. I'd imagine he'll go for a winners' bumper. Patrick said he pulled quite hard and was afraid that he didn't settle well enough but he showed plenty of toe.
