Second Claimer success for Timourid
we probably ran him back a bit too quick after claiming him and I’d say he’s better with a couple of weeks gap between his races. He beat a horse of ours, Malaysian, the day we claimed him and that grade probably suits him. He’s done it well and seven (furlongs) was probably a bit short for him last time. We’ve got a win out of him and he’s in to be claimed for €15,000. If someone claims him off us we can’t moan as we’re regularly doing it. He’s a grand fun horse and will be kept busy up here.
Take My Hand gets off the mark on the all-weather
I have to thank Ben Coen (jockey) for that one, as after the last day I was going to give her a break. I thought she might not handle the surface but he said that she got boxed in and to definitely run her back. She didn’t get in last week but got in today and the handicapper has dropped her a bit and given her a chance. The plan today was jump out and make all. She was having problems in the stalls - she doesn’t mind going in but gets worked up when she’s standing in them. She’s a good servant and goes on all surfaces — she's a good solid little mare. It’s been a while since we had a winner here and she’ll come back here again.
Martin hails 'great job' from apprentice Whearty
the kid (Whearty) was very strong. She takes a bit of riding and is not quite as quick as she used to be. We used to be able to drop her in and come home strong. The last day we ran her more prominently and possibly didn’t quite get home so we were trying to do a balancing act and he did a great job. she’s taken a while to come back to herself this year but the last run was encouraging having ridden her totally different than we used to. I think we got the balance spot on tonight and Robert did a great job. She wouldn’t have got the mile well last year but she’s a bit older and is quite a bit stronger than she used to be. I’m delighted for Ray Moore who is with me a long time and is an incredibly lucky owner. He resides in Spain now and will be delighted.
De Bromhead's juvenile wins impressively
I loved her when she won a barrier trial here and I tried to be too clever in the Stakes race and didn’t do her justice. I thought she’d be a little more green than she was and I got hemmed in down the fence and never got a bit of light. I said to Henry this morning that I wouldn’t mind keeping it simple and he said you have free rein. She’s improved physically and is obviously well related. That sire is so underrated. I don’t know where her ceiling is but she’s very good. She was flicking her ears and I gave her a squeeze at the top of the straight and she impressed me. She’s going to bring them to big places.
Hayes moves clear in Dundalk Championship
she had a couple of ok runs up here and I’m delighted to get the win with her. I’m delighted to have a winner for the Rogers who own her in partnership with the Powers, who have been great supporters of mine. Joe Rogers and his family foal all our mares and look after horses. It’s the first horse I’ve had for him so I’m delighted. I thought she could win one at two and she might come back here once more before Christmas.
Stellar Spirit scores in three-way photo
he was entitled to win that off ratings and has been running very consistent. It’s great to get a win out of him after claiming him. Gavin thinks he was ok at six if they went a bit quicker. They went a bit steady for him and he’s happy enough anywhere between six and a mile which gives him a lot of options. There is a 0-75 seven furlongs handicap coming up in a few weeks’ time and if he’s fine and holding his form we might have a go at it.
Dundalk double for Whearty
she’s the first flat horse that I’ve trained so I might be looking at getting a few more in! She’s a decent filly and I took my time with her as a two-year-old, got her experienced and it’s paid off. She never missed a feed from last week and I’ve actually given her an extra kilo a day. We might step her up in trip. There is a two-mile race here on Friday week so we’ll have a look at that.
Comer's latecomer hands Hayes a hat-trick
