Dedigout makes winning chase debut
hopefully Dedigout goes the right way now and we'll see how he comes out of this. He had experience from point to pointing and we had schooling around the track. It went well and I was happy with his jumping. The first lad (Beaverstown, early leader) took him along but he fell throught tiredness . they went plenty fast enough on that ground. We'll take it one step at a time with him but hopefully he'll be a good horse . we'll look for something in three or four weeks time and the Drinmore Chase looks the obvious one for him or else we could go for a winners' of one. He bends his knee well and goes well on that winter ground.
Banjaxed Girl bounces back
we had to get that one out of the way! I think she may be a little bit better that last year as she had a little bit of a problem then which took a little bit of time to work out. I was nervous about the ground for her first time out but Robbie (Power) said she just about handled it. He thought last year that she wouldn't get much further that two and a half miles but I might step her up to try now to find out. At least she is a winner again now (gained seven wins for Nigel Twiston Davies in Britain) and also has blacktype already so that's important for her. She has a sister going to the Doncaster Sales shortly.
Fifth win for Madden's Highdownhill
Highdownhill did it nicely and we'll find another one like that somewhere. He handled conditions quite well and popped away. He enjoys getting a bit of a chance early on and he came home well and he received a lovely ride.
Nothing wrong with this Par!
Just A Par is a good horse and is still very green. This horse never ran in a schooling race but he ran in two point to points. When Richard (O'Dea, Nagle's amateur rider) rode him the first day, Just A Par was nearly too green to run. Richard then gave him a super ride when he won at Loughrea. He needs someone to take him along at a good gallop and Tom (Doyle) was impressed with him.
Third win of the year for Mr Eko
I thought two miles might be too short for him today . he jumps and keeps galloping, and while he isn't the quickest, is a smashing old horse.
Double for Vic Chic
Vic Chic has matured and is a great mare for this time of the year. We are very pleased with her and will look for something similar next - she stays forever. My dad John (Weston) owns her and he'll be falling off the chair in England!
Delight for O'Brien in Punchestown finale
my father bred Caoimhe's Delight and it makes things harder as we buried him just over a week ago. she was always a very useful mare but we had a torrid time last year with a virus and even when she won her point to point, she wasn't right. When she got beaten in Tipperary she was left in front and she idles when she gets there . even today she was pulling up a bit. She wants a true run race and will be a lovely mare over jumps. Conor O'Dwyer was down looking at her half brother earlier today and he runs in a maiden at Dromahane this weekend - but his price has just gone up!
