Commander too good for odds-on Cuba
I just said to him to ride him handy and be positive,. I was concerned that he might not get two miles but if he was ever going to get it he was going to get it around here. He did it well. He said he jumped, travelled and picked up well. He seems to be happiest in front and he'll pick up a bit for you. That was good, I knew he'd like the ground anyway and he said he never missed a beat jumping on that ground. The handicapper can't be too hard on us after that. His owner (Sean Gallagher) isn't well. He has a lot of horses in training but he's not able to get around the way he used to.
Poet prevails on second start for Hogan
That was great. They are local owners so it's always good to win here,. Fair play to the track for re-staging it so quickly. One of the owners is on the committee and he texted me on Sunday morning when I was just about to leave to say racing was called off. I was gutted and nearly got sick because I fancied this lad strongly. I thought he'd win today but it was a competitive handicap and you still have to go and do it. He carried 11-8. I nearly fell off him at the last but other than that he was straight-forward enough. It's just mighty for the yard because every horse is running well even in defeat. They are all hitting the crossbar, going over or going under. It keeps the staff happy, the owners happy and makes my job easy.
Consistent Osco gets the better of Rosie
She probably wants further and we are going to go jumping fences with her as well,. I thought the race suited. She'll probably come on from the run, as we missed a bit of time with a few of ours, but in fairness she was tough and she stayed galloping to the very end. That wasn't really the plan but Jack said they were going very steady so he went on and he thought he might just test the other horse's jumping as it wasn't jumping great. He used his own head, his own initiative, and did the right thing there. It's a nice race to win with her.
Hourigan on the mark with About You
We have a handful of horses and we're doing alright. I'm as happy as the proverbial pig doing what I'm doing and that's very important as I'm 56 years at it now,. I fancied her going to Tipperary but we arrived there and it was a bog. Danny said she just loves that ground and she won a point-to-point on good ground. She got beat in Limerick on soft ground, a slower gallop suits her on soft ground. She's a half-sister to that good horse we had, What's Happening. He's won twice in Cheltenham for Tom George. She won a point and chasing will be her forte. I gave my nephew the mare a couple of years ago to give him half an interest and she's bred two winners now. A lot of mares never breed a winner and she was only a bit of a mare and was no good herself. She kept her genes for the others.
Kennedy doubles-up on Hardback
Consharon Boy completes a treble for Kennedy
He deserved that. He beat Monalee in a bumper once upon a time but he's had his problems and the owners have been very patient,. Hopefully we can get a run into him now and pick up a few more. He jumps well and has been a great servant. That was a nice little prize. I've no plans but we'll tip away in handicap chases for the summer.
