McCullagh delighted to ride a winner for 'legend' Prendergast
McConnell strikes with one of his four
She deserved it, she ran well the last day but probably got harried a bit in front then and didn't quite get home, so we dropped her back in trip,. She was game. She is what she is but she's competitive at her rating and hopefully she can go again. It's great to have a winner here. We haven't come here with huge expectations but it's great to get that on the board.
Jazz Dreamers gets back to winning ways
He ran very well the last day so we weren't surprised by that at all,. He had a few issues early on but he seems to have outgrown them and he's back where he was, maybe as a three-year-old. He's been running consistently and has given the lads plenty of fun. Ger (O'Neill), who is involved in him, was appointed under-20 manager of the Meath hurlers a few days ago. Helen, who owns the most of him, couldn't come today. Her daughter is going to her debs tonight and they are having a thing in the house before she left. She is married to Shane Butler.
Rose blooms on handicap debut
We're delighted to get another win for Annette O'Callaghan,. The secret with her is to go around bends and good ground. She just barely gets that seven and ground is the key. If we got good ground in Listowel that would be another ideal track for her, as she won there before. The owners would love to get black-type so we'll do our best for them.
1,2,4 for Bunyan as Buddy Batt leads home the favourite
All three are smart horses,. Sovereign City just didn't handle the undulations early and didn't get going until it was too late. Janzoor is a smart horse in the making and probably a little bit more juice in the ground wouldn't be any harm for him and a little bit more time too. On his homework Buddy Batt is very similar to the horse that was third in the Group 3 up the Curragh on Saturday for us (Chandigah). There isn't a whole lot between them at home and he's a smart horse this boy as well. We would have been disappointed if he didn't win to tell the truth. We knew all three would be competitive, that's why they came here. You'd have to be delighted with the three, we were only pipped for the one-two-three. Aidan (O'Brien) might be well used to it but we're not!. Buddy Batt had track experience as well and that's a big thing, he had a few runs under his belt. We got down to Cork with him the last day and the ground was a swamp. We let him have the run to get a blow into him and he wasn't knocked around on the day. He's a good ground horse so we knew our fate before the race that day. We'll have a look and see what's coming up for him and see how he comes out of it. He's a very tough individual and whether he's racing or working all he does is eat, sleep and drink. He's a very straightforward horse. If he's not sold we'll see what rating he gets but I wouldn't be afraid of running him in a Listed race.
Outsider of the field makes all under Ryan
I thought she was a serious price, she had been working well,. We had her very right when she won at Fairyhouse and I'd say she just went off the boil a bit after it. We freshened her up a bit since that and she did a couple of really sharp bits of work recently. She just hung on but she showed a lot of boot. It's great for Elaine and Gerry (Shevlin) who are great supporters. Gerry is in involved with Glyde Ranger as well so they are having a good year. She's entered at Navan on Saturday but at the minute she's out of the handicap so we'll probably look for something a bit easier. We'll see how she is.
Night Glow a first for McCreery & Keane
She's a well-bred filly, and for very important owners of mine, so I'm delighted,. Colin said she's only learning her trade and she'll improve a lot from that. She had to wait for a run in Killarney the last day. She's been running on tight tracks but it's very hard to win a fillies maiden here in Ireland. We'll talk to the owners now. They are always trying to look for a bit of black-type but she'll be ground dependant, being by Karakontie. She's very like the sire, a big rangy filly. I think that's Colin's first winner for me. With Billy suspended, when he became available I had to use him.
Dartan delivers with quick turnaround on the cards
The ground went against him in Galway and he got his ground today,. I thought it was a great performance off that weight, he was giving plenty of weight away. He's an honest horse and the cheekpieces sharpened him up a bit today. Derek gave him a great ride. He's declared in the hurdle tomorrow (the Mullacurry Cup) and if he's alright he'll probably come back. The ground should be nice so if he eats up and everything is fine, I don't see why not.
