Cartouche writes an emphatic winning chapter
Foley gets one back on Marmolata in the claimer
Shane was very good on her. The plan kind of went out the window at the start. I hadn’t really counted on her coming out of stalls against proper seven-furlong horses as she was just a bit slower than usual. They went a good gallop which played to her strengths and she galloped the whole way to the line. She’s very genuine and hopefully there might be another win or two in her. Seven is her minimum. I was surprised she handled the ground and she will be a nice filly for Dundalk over the winter and going back over hurdles next summer.
Keane unwavering in title chase as he doubles up
He deserved that and has put a few good runs together. He handles the slow ground well. Colin thought he might have the speed for six on slow ground so that’s something to think about. It’s nice to get his head in front for the year as he’s probably not a Dundalk horse. He probably gets a mile but has sharpened up his last few runs.
Earls grabs his second career success
It was a nice little contest to find for him and to win two with him isn’t too bad. He normally likes to make the running but there was loads of pace so he couldn’t. He pulled up a bit in front but it was a funny race and he was out on his own. There was a fair wind as well. He’s in again on Thursday over five furlongs at Navan so we’ll see how he is in the morning. I think he’ll handle Dundalk as well.
Leading apprentice Ryan excels on Clear Quartz
He grows a leg on that ground and it’s his first time in a 45-65. Gavin was great on him and it wasn’t the strongest of races. He’s a young progressing horse. There is very little else for him and we are just grateful that this meeting was put on. The conditions suited him. The owner Fearghal Hogan will knock good fun out of him. He boards mares and does livery at his place in Rathangan.
Mullins' land an across-the-card double with Toughari
Shane Foley rode him in Roscommon and said to put a pair of blinkers on him, go out in trip and he’ll win. Then a hurdle race came up in Killarney and it didn’t work out as the favourite wandered about and frightened my lad.
Ryan doubles up in chase for apprentice crown
He’s a good little rider and I left it to himself. He got him to settle which is the key. I put cheekpieces on the last day and he was just too free. At least he has one up now and it’s great for the owner Susan Bury who has been with me a long time. He might run again in Galway on Monday.
