he deserved that win as he's hit the crossbar a couple of times. The idea was to jump, go from the front and keep extending them the whole way - I gave him a breather from the seven (furlong pole) to the five and quickened away again then. I think I just caught the others flat footed and he's tough; he wouldn't go past horses so it's ideal to go from the front. He was back down to a winnable mark and I was delighted to get the winner for Pat.

Zabalan wins Naas maiden for Weld/Roche

he did what you'd expect and had the form to win the way he did. We'll go for a handicap with him. He's consistent and is the same horse that went to Cork. He ran a good race in Cork to finish second and ran a good race to finish third at Dundalk and was also third at the Curragh before that. He's run to the same level there and he's won. That's all he's had to do. A mile-and-a-quarter could be his right trip as he's by Dutch Art - we could look at something at Galway with him.

Dawson's Queen 'lets down' for northern win

to be honest I didn't think she'd handle the ground but she was in such serious form that we had to give it a chance at that level. I thought she should have won at Ayr but things just didn't work out. Danny was told to take a pull and give her a bit of cover and it what worked well and she enjoyed having something to aim at. Credit to Danny, it was a good ride. I didn't think she'd let down on that ground at all so it gives me a few more options ground wise as well. I thought she was more dependant on soft ground but she handled that very well. She's in rude health so I had to have a go tonight. I'm delighted for her owner Gerry McManus, who has had horses in training for a long time and has been very faithful to me. She's not entered up for anywhere but I'll find somewhere soon and keep it going.

he got a fracture the day he won his two-year-old maiden in Leopardstown but it was successfully screwed and he's had no bother since, but because it happened on good to firm we had kept him to yielding or softer. The last day he won (on fast ground at Limerick in May) we took a chance and it worked; the horse himself has no objection to it, we were just being careful. I'd say seven (furlongs) or a mile is his trip; over six it just happens a bit quick for him.

Leonard completes Naas double

he seems to be getting a bit better and is improving each time. We might look at Dundalk on July 12th with him next.
