Grammata gets her head in front
Kaluz makes most of 'lovely opportunity'
It was a lovely opportunity for her and she always worked like she was a maiden (winner), but Ronan Whelan rode her on her second last race and said to up her to a mile. She got stuck in the muck at Leopardstown and did too much in front, so that is what I was afraid of. She is a better filly with a bit of cover, but Luke gave her a very intelligent ride and popped out and slowed it up in front and had them all stacked up behind him. She was always going to stay galloping and she'll be a lovely filly next year; there may be another one in her this year, but next year we'll have a right bit of fun with her.
Longbourn fills O'Sullivan with pride
We bought him off Eddie Harty and he had winter form (at Dundalk). His owner Amanda Torrens has had a rough time with a couple of horses getting injured in the winter time and we decided to try a flat horse for her, and it is great to get a winner. He is ground-dependent, needs good ground and we had him in last week, but the heavy rain at Limerick changed everything. He could keep going forward now. I thought giving the three-year-olds 6lbs might be a hard task especially in September, but he stuck to it very well. We'll stick to the flat and he could go back to Dundalk, but down the road he could also go jumping.
Magic Chegaga one for Weld and Orr
Na Caith Tobac seals double for red-hot McAteer
I was nearly going to pull him out due to the quick ground, but all the lads said it was safe so we took a punt. It was too short for him over six at Fairyhouse and Rory Cleary (jockey then) said 'what are you doing?' and to step him up in trip on softer ground. We got away with the ground today, but he could improve again on softer ground. The owner (Philip Carney) was going to punt him and I told him that today was the day if he was going to back him: it wasn't that we thought he was a world-beater, but it was the right race. Hopefully he will win a few more and he jumps hurdles great.
Overheer gives Orr a brace in Tipperary
The reason we bought him is he is related to Ardbrae Lady who was second in the (Irish) 1,000 Guineas for me. He is from that family and is out of a Galileo mare and I hope he can improve from that again, and I'd say there is another race in him. He is a big block of a horse and he is versatile ground-wise; I saw him going to the start and he cut daisies and, when we ran him on soft he bent the knee so he is a clever horse.
Blackstone Cliff responds to Keane's urgings
The owner James Wallace is a very nice man who has been patient with me making a mess of things! He was unlucky at Down Royal and then I stretched him stamina-wise at Leopardstown and the ground was very soft at Cork the last day, and he loves this ground. I was humming and hawing whether to run him as he didn't do a great piece of work during the week, but when you have Colin on your side it is a great help. He stays 1m2f, is big enough to jump hurdles and when we got him he was quite keen and he could possibly make a nice summer hurdler next year.
Keane doubles up on Son Of Hypnos
He stays well, is pretty uncomplicated and Colin said he was happy enough to take a lead as they were going hard enough. The cheekpieces worked well on him the last day and we left them on him.
