Mullins' mare wins Fairyhouse's opener
Whatsavailable registers third Fairyhouse win
O'Keeffe completes Fairyhouse double
he won his maiden hurdle in Kilbeggan but we were bitterly disappointed with him in Sligo but that was much more pleasing. It was a non-event that day and for whatever reason he just didn’t turn up. That was much more like what he showed us at home, his schooling and everything. He jumped from fence to fence, and Darragh is riding with plenty of confidence. He was good and positive over the last two. Ground is important to him, he wants nice ground, so we’ll see what the weather does and where we go next. That was as short as he wants, and three miles is what we are looking for but in fairness he showed a nice bit of pace off the bend down to the second last. He’s a three-mile chaser.
'Plucky' Quail wins on first ride for Elliott
he’d a good run last week and Toni gave him a plucky ride: the 7lb off his back wasn’t any harm. There is a lady riders race back here in a few weeks and we may come back for that.
Lisleigh Lad does the trick for Broderick!
it’s my first winner, I’m 71 years of age in two weeks' time and I've always dreamt of winning a hunters chase. I've had 10 point-to-point wins but this is a huge deal for me and for everyone behind me. The team includes my partner Matt Slattery and Grace, who rides out for me along with Eoin (O'Brien) and Darragh Allen, who are my jockeys: I'm so lucky to have a good team behind me. My father is born and bred in Listowel, loved hunting and was involved in the Avondhu Hunt and I actually rode three point-to-point winners. I wasn't much good but rode with the likes of Timmy and Johnny Callaghan, Pat Healy, Nicky Dee, Jimmy Mangan and even Ted Walsh: they knew I was harmless so were good to me and I had a good grounding!. I actually worked a horse in Jimmy's (Mangan) the other day. The last time I was here with a horse was 34 years ago with my father and we had Ashpit finishing fourth in the Joseph O’Reilly. fitness was on Lisleigh Lad's side today, he was very straightforward and God he won easy! I know the other horse fell at the last but he would still have won it. This fella is a good horse, but he wasn’t right last year. He won two (point-to-points) and beat Early Doors in Kildorrery. He came in this year a different horse, finished fourth in Curraghmore where he blew up, but was spot on for today. I don’t think he’ll go back point-to-pointing now and we’ll stay inside the rails. He’s a great jumper. I have two nice four-year
Portarlington gets off the mark for Donoghue and Williamson
that’s just his second run for me and Keith (Donoghue, brother) rode him the last day and loved him. He said he gallops and stays but didn’t come down the hill that day in Limerick on quick ground. He was good today and Josh gave him a great ride. He might go again at Navan on Sunday: the two-mile race might be a bit short for him but it’s a big stiff track.
Team Mullins win bumper with ex-pointer
we bought him after he won at Dromahane but there was a question mark over his wind. David Mullins was very keen on him though and had picked him out, so I thought at the price (€60,000) he was worth a chance. He’s now won a point-to-point and a bumper and he’s for sale to stay in the yard. He has a Flat pedigree so it was impressive to win a point-to-point in Dromahane and now win a slowly run bumper.
