Solar puts the Heat on rivals over fences
I think personally the ride, more than the 5lbs claim, made the difference and I think he did everything right and she jumped her heart out and you couldn't fault them. Barry has been second for us in the past and that's his first win for us. He's a good jockey and timed it well today. She is owned by the West To Easy Syndicate, which are brothers Michael and Louis Conway who are Galway and Dublin based.
Career best by Hogan's Eiri Na Casca
He wasn't right down at the start at Galway (October 29) and was withdrawn but it might have been all for luck as the ground was a bit slow too. He got kicked in the paddock in the morning of the race and didn't feel right going to the start and to be fair the vets used their heads and didn't allow him to race. He loved the ground here, they went a right gallop and the race fell apart so he was able to move into it without even asking him. The last day here in a hurdle race, I was last and got to the front turning in but he didn't do a tap when he got there. He even looked at some of Molony's (racecourse owners) horses in the field galloping beside him and was gawking out looking at them, so I didn't want to be in front too soon today.
True Self lands the odds in style
Her jumping will improve and it's good to know she can handle soft ground as well. She has plenty of gears and will go back on the Flat eventually but we'll keep going jumping over the winter. It's great for Brian and Neville Eager is his sponsor. Brian was involved with selling her to Neville so that's why he rode her today. Brian did it very well and deserves all the opportunities he gets and is a hard working fellow. He is in riding out once a week for us and it's his first winner for us. He's also my landlord so I might get a week's rent from this!. She didn't cost a huge amount but is now three from three.
McInerney scores again on Kings Baby
She is a little dinger for a small mare and we'll go for something else again. She stays all day, is very genuine and maybe we could look for a black-type race for her now. Her owner Michael Kenny, from Co Wicklow, is away on holidays in Australia to see his son.
Local win for Burkes with Open Book
She was only broken as a six-year-old and is now seven and has a bit of class. We gave her time to develop and it has worked out well. We're based just two miles out the road so it's great to get a local win.
Mullins doubles up with Brahma Bull
He is made for chasing and we had to wait three years for him to run so he's paying that back now in spades. He was quite keen today but in bumpers he has had to be 'on his head' so we'll try to teach him to settle now over a trip. He'll stay hurdling this year but chasing is going to be his game and in a better race going faster, he'll jump better. Rich's son George named him after the wrestler 'The Rock' (Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, who had a famous Brahma Bull tattoo).
Daly Tiger roars loudly in the bumper
We thought he was fairly sharp and he's much sharper than those bumper horses we've been running and has more pace. The danger was he has been doing everything so easy that he really hasn't been taken off the bridle. I'd assume he'll go straight over hurdles now and unlike a lot of them (Gigginstown House Stud-type runners), you wouldn't be afraid of running him over two miles. Sean (Flanagan) rode him work before he ran in a point-to-point last year and liked him and when he went to the Sales, we were lucky enough Eddie (O'Leary) bought him for us to train.
