Pleascach explodes on to Classic scene
she is very green and has done nothing but came to hand very quickly so we said we'd give her a run at the Curragh (last weekend).
'Belgian' Bertie helped by rub of the rail
I never thought for a moment up the straight he'd win and I don't think he learned as much as I would have liked at the Curragh on his debut. He came out wide then and was away from the other horses and it was like his first run tonight. There's plenty of improvement in him and you have to love his attitude but that's as fast as he would want it. He'll get further and we'll take our time with him and look to the Futurity Stakes down the road.
Apprentice makes winning debut for Weld
we'll have to see when Dad comes back whether that's her last hurrah or not as she is in foal to Choisir. She's a good honest mare and Robbie gave her a beautiful ride and did exactly as was asked. She has always liked it around here and it's great she has managed to win here.
Apprentice Roche in Olympic form
Korbous has very patient owners who waited two years on him. I thought he was a good horse the day he won but everything went wrong with him from his head to his tail! . They were all small things but good owners persevere. Penel (McAuley, owner) rode in the 1968 Olympics in Mexico so I was telling Leigh she knows her horses!
Bolger Focuses on Sales with Leop'er winner
he (Spring Focus) got a good pace which suited and is now going over to the Newmarket Horses In Training Sales on Tuesday.
McManus and Weld spring 16/1 surprise!
the better ground was a big help - he had run well at Dundalk a couple of times and the return to the sounder surface suited him well. We took a chance with the trip . it was ten furlongs in Roscommon the last day too but the ground had gone for him there.
Closing races double for Fran Berry
she ran great the last day when the ground went a bit soft on her and I'm delighted to get her back as she had a few bad runs and we weren't sure what was wrong. She had two bad runs over hurdles and we were scratching our heads a bit but at Cheltenham in April they over-watered the ground and she didn't like it. We'll take it as it comes and keep running as long as the ground is good or good to firm and she might go back over hurdles.
