Hall hits the mark for the Dempseys
Gatsby impressive in rated contest
We threw him in the deep end the last couple of times but he showed nothing. It can only be the ground so we’ll keep him on good ground.
Tuckmill opens account in style
He probably needed to concentrate more and the blinkers helped him. He was that bit behind the bridle. It’s great that he’s won. He ran a fine race the last day (in first-time blinkers) and hopefully they keep working for him.
Flashthelights scores for the McConvilles
That’s my first winner for a good few years. I had a break for a wee while so it’s great to get back and ride a winner again. He’s done it nicely in the end. He’s been progressing his last few runs and as long as he kept progressing we knew he’d be thereabouts today.
Awake times it well
We thought all winter the horses were in good shape but not one of them fired. I rarely have a winner in the depths of winter but as soon as the spring comes the horses run better. I didn’t think he was going to win and coming off the last bend I thought we’d be lucky to be third. Phillip said every time he asked him he went on for him. I’m delighted to get his head in front and we’ll find something similar for him.
Envoy another bumper winner for Doyle
He’s in the Landrover Bumper so he’ll go there. He’s green and babyish, only barely ready to run. I thought the advantages of running out-weighted the disadvantages of not running before Punchestown. He’ll improve loads from that. He’s a lovely, lovely horse. I think that’s his ground and I don’t think he wants it too heavy. He’s been lovely from day one and I like him a lot. That kid (Townend) is superb. She does nothing wrong and keeps out of trouble.
