A Lot to Like for Nolan and Heskin
He didn't jump well and I thought we were in a spot of bother when he rooted a few fences down the back. He jumped the last well but wobbled around a bit after the last. At Leopardstown, he ran a bit better than his form looked as he clipped heels with the winner at one stage. If he gets his jumping together, I think he'll be a better horse over fences than he was over hurdles.
Katie lands the odds after 1st fence melee
She had a slight setback over Christmas and today was the obvious place to come. She wants better ground and, depending on how the handicapper reacts, we might think about a handicap next although I've no real plans.
Dominant Walsh brings up 50 for season
He couldn't face into that wind in the straight and it's hard to keep a horse in front in those conditions but Ruby said he liked that ground. We'll probably move him up to two and a half miles and on that ground he should have no problems.
Ryansbrook shows great reserves of stamina
The ground has to be soft and the further the better for him. His pedigree suggests stamina and I imagine he'll go for a handicap next, we'll see what Noel (O'Brien, handicapper) does.
Unique really digs deep for Thurles win
He was unlucky at Limerick the last day when he made a mistake at the second last when I thought he might have got there. Brian gave him a good ride today and we'll keep tipping away with him over hurdles as he doesn't jump a fence. We'll look for another small handicap hurdle.
Dance does the business for Howard
She has always run a good race and is tough. She probably wants further but today's ground played to her strengths. She is owned by Derek Logue, who owns Bellsbridge Hotel in Milltown Malbay near where I train. There's another handicap for her at Punchestown in mid-February for her next.
