Porter floors rivals for Cromwell and Moore
He was one of the highest rated in the field so he was entitled to make the frame anyway,. I thought they went very hard. He was last going past with a circuit to run and he was struggling to lie up. It just kind of fell his way as they went too hard and he outstayed them. They weren't a great bunch so we won't be getting too excited but it's great to win.
Effernock Fizz in sparkling form for Katy Brown
She's a four-year-old and she's improving the whole time,. She ran a lovely race up the Curragh last Friday in a €30,000 race. She was very unlucky as she was just beaten on the line by Dermot Weld's filly who has gone up to 93 since. That's her third win over hurdles. The last day we came here with her the ground just didn't suit her as it was a little bit tacky. Conditions suited her today. She's entered at Leopardstown in two weeks in a big premier handicap on the Flat. There are big entries for it but fingers crossed they don't all run. I think she deserves a crack at a big handicap. We were happy enough to come here after Friday, she came out of the race well and hopefully she'll come out of this one as well. These small field conditions race seem to suit her. We were riding her the wrong way before and she just wasn't happy in behind. When she's out in front she's at her happiest and she gallops away the finest and jumps the finest. We can't complain, she's not doing too much wrong at the moment. We're delighted with that and hopefully we go to Leopardstown now.
Happy Days as Weld's hotpot wins easily
Lucky lands hat-trick for Cromwell
That was great. We gave him a little break after Killarney and he obviously done well for it,. I thought he had a place chance coming here, I thought the handicapper had had his say. In fairness he's after improving with the break. The owners (Lucky Seven Syndicate) are all local enough and as you can see they are all delighted. It's a great initiative this syndicates race. He's only a handy little horse but he's been a great servant. I bought him at the August sale last year and he only cost €3,000. Peaches And Cream came from the same sale and I only gave €1,200 for him. Both are by Salutino who wouldn't be that well known.
Hill reaches double figures in Mullacurry Cup
He's a great little horse to have and he's after winning ten races now. I'm delighted with him,. Horses like him are hard to come by and he wins every year. He's ran 40 times and has won 10. Darragh said he got a bit tight there and said he would have been an unlucky loser. Darragh is flying and is a free 5lb at the moment. I was keen enough to run him over fences but we'll see. We'll see how he is and there's a novice chase in Listowel but in some of those winners of one he can be a bit wrong at the weights. We'll keep him going anyway. He likes that good ground and as long as we get that we'll keep the show on the road.
Malbay makes light of quick reappearance
She's a game little mare and I wouldn't have run her again but for the fact that she's so tough,. It's a waste of time having a horse in this game if they're not tough. It was a bit of a concern after her run at Ballinrobe on Tuesday, on ground she wouldn't have liked. It was only two-two there and if I had run her in the two-six I wouldn't have dreamt of running her again because she would have got a hard race, that why I went for the two-two. The owners wanted to go to Ballinrobe and I'm local to Bellewstown so we got it both ways and it worked out grand. Sean gave her a beautiful ride, he kept it simple. She came home and ate up on Tuesday and rode out yesterday morning and was fine. She's a grand mare, she's small and I was concerned about the weight on her back. I ride her out everyday so she's well able to carry weight at home anyway. She was very game but I'd say you wouldn't have seen the best of her with the run on Tuesday.
The drinks are on Darragh's followers!
He had two runs runs for me. I claimed him off a good friend of mine Ado (McGuinness). I asked him and he didn't mind. He knows him inside out and maybe just the change of yard and being freshened up helped. When we got him he looked a million dollars for a horse that's had a lot of runs, and he's a credit to him really. He had a good run in Perth and a good run in Ayr, where they went no gallop. He's a grand versatile horse and he'll head back to England now I'd say. There might be another day in him on the Flat or something. I claimed him for an owner of mine but made the mistake of not putting his name on him so I ended up with him myself which is grand. He's a grand fun horse.
The bumper is Sweettowatch for Nigel Slevin
We have her entered in the sales and she has a good pedigree so we needed her to draw. You look a hero now that she's won but if she didn't win I would have looked a fool. I always had faith in her because her work has always been very good. She's going to go to the sales now so it's job done and we'll try and get a few quid for her now.
