Grit lives up to name in Limerick opener
He'll be an improving horse and is still weak and will be a lot stronger next year. The step up in trip helped, he is a big horse and is a big baby,. His owner/breeder Sean Beston is a good man and works on the oil rigs in Cork - that's why he isn't here today and I can't even get him on the phone!. He was tough and hardy and Jimmy (Kelly, brother) put a lot of work into him and it was also great for Eamonn as he works great for us.
Sapphire strolls to third hurdle win
Silent Sun scores for in form McGarvey
that’s brilliant; he works well but we’ve been unlucky with him since we got him and was hurt and off for the guts of a season and had other niggly problems. I was very disappointed with him at Tramore two runs ago - I was disgusted with him actually, but his run the last day was very good. I didn’t have to tell Jody to ride him with plenty confidence, he told me beforehand ‘if he runs as well as he did at Cork, he wins it’s as simple as that’; I’m never that confident but he gave him a brilliant ride. Apart from Jody having confidence, the horse had confidence after the last day and he’ll go for something similar in a few weeks time. He’s a chaser down the road and is brilliant to jump.
Awake makes it two from two over fences
Paul said coming down the hill he thought he was beaten and he thinks the horse in front (Fire In Soul) stopped, which made life easier for us; had a very good jump at the second last and won quite well,. He did think he was in trouble but it was nice and when he does it, he is impressive and he learned much more today than the last day. I'll discuss it with the owner and decide where we go next but he has done very well to win twice in five days.
Sharlanda scores for Bowe/Flanagan
she was deadly there. We didn’t know if she’d handle the soft ground as we only have her a year and I’d say she’ll go 2m4f easily. She is in-foal to Ol’ Man River and only has a month left to race so we might be tempted to go for a black-type race now.
Benny back in winners enclosure
He came to me last autumn having run in five point to points and fifth was as close as he got. On his first run for me, he was beaten just half a length and then won his next run by ten lengths,. I'd say the ground was just a bit quick for him the last day and it went soft out there today and we weren't sure how he'd handle it but the race cut up when a few came out. You're never unhappy when they come out and I was quite hopeful!. It's great to win another race for the owner/breeder (Ray Loughnane); this is a very competitive country and any time you have a winner, I tell you it's great. We'll look for something similar next and down the line he is more of a chaser.
