Perfect's win brings back memories
Rubi shows the old spark
I thought the trip would be too short for him, but he outstayed him. Davy said he was always very confident on him,. It's great to get him back, as he has had plenty of problems, and lives outside in a specially designed paddock. He was bursting blood vessels last year and also had a wind operation. He's in the Grand National and we'll have a look at it as there's only one Grand National and my dad (Bill Hennessy, owner) has had a winner at Cheltenham but never at Aintree!
Hughes dominance in Michael Purcell goes on
I was very disappointed with him at Leopardstown, and was a bit worried about the ground coming here, as we had thought he was a good ground horse. Barry (Geraghty) gave him a super ride though and was tough on him,. The cheek-pieces really helped and he is as tough as old boots.
Bill dominant under trainer/rider Hogan
He's always threatened to do that. His run at Christmas was very good behind Pylonthepressure,. Maybe he should have won his bumper, but we were putting him down for a stayer, just because he was second in a point. He's built like, and travels like a stayer. He actually has the gears for two though. Some of those bumpers you need to be a two and a half mile, or three mile horse at this time of year. After the last day-over two miles six here-I said lads (owners, the Clashbeg Syndicate) there's nothing that happened other than that he didn't stay. Two to two and a half miles and chasing will be his game. He's built for that. We won't knock him about this year, he might have one more run, maybe at Fairyhouse. It'll be all about chasing next year. He's a big horse and I wouldn't run him on quick ground.
Captain does O'Connells proud again
He gave me my first winner in Limerick (at Christmas) and it's great to get back winning on him again,. It looked all over for me but he keeps finding-he's tough and he stays very well. He loves the mud. That's my second winner and I'm with my dad (winning trainer Eamonn) four days a week. I'm with Charles Byrnes two days a week.
2nd winner in 6 days for Lisa O'Neill
We have waited a while for this and I'm delighted for his owner, Michael Hogan, from Castletroy in Limerick, as he has been a brilliant owner,. I thought a lot of him but a lot of the good amateur riders turned him down but I'm delighted as Lisa gave him a brilliant ride.
